A team of pupils from All Saints Catholic High School in Sheffield have been crowned champions of the Subsea UK 2019 STEM Challenge, which saw five teams from across the UK compete to design an ROV to collect plastic from the sea.

The UK subsea sector will have the opportunity to strengthen its international presence at the largest oil and gas exhibition in Australasia next month.

Motive Offshore Group was crowned subsea company of the year while Jim Milne was recognised for his outstanding contribution to the sector at Subsea UK’s annual awards last night (Wednesday 6th February).

The global underwater hub, to be based in Aberdeen, will be the industry’s and government’s response to increasing our global marketshare, capitalising on the opportunities in all sectors by connecting, leveraging and enhancing our capabilities.

Scottish energy minister, Paul Wheelhouse will attend Subsea UK’s annual flagship event in Aberdeen this week, where industry experts will gather to explore why disruptive and enabling technologies hold the key to greater levels of transparency, efficiency, and performance.

The finalists have been announced for next year’s Subsea UK awards, which recognise the companies and individuals who are leading the way in the UK’s £7.5billion subsea sector.
